Q: What is a psychiatrist and what sort of problems do they deal with?
A:
A psychiatrist is a licensed physician (M.D. or D.O.) who has completed medical school and then a residency program specializing in disorders of emotion, thought, and behavior. They deal with a wide range of conditions including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, panic attacks, psychosis, trauma, obsessive-compulsive disorder, drug and alcohol addiction, to name a few. They use both pharmacology (medications) and psychotherapy to help individuals better cope with their problems.
Q: Would I benefit from seeing a psychiatrist?
A:
If you are suffering from problems of emotion (e.g., depression, worry, mania), thought (e.g., hearing voices, racing thoughts, memory or concentration difficulties) or behavior (e.g., aggressiveness, difficulty in relationships), you may benefit from psychiatric care. The only way to know for sure is to have a thorough psychiatric evaluation performed by a qualified psychiatrist. If you are suffering mentally for any reason a psychiatric evaluation may be helpful.
Q: How does payment work?
A:
Currently we are accepting new patients with Highmark, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, or UPMC insurance ONLY. Please note this EXCLUDES any Medicare products such as Freedom Blue, Security Blue, or UPMC for Life. In addition to insurance, we accept cash or check payments as well. Please call either 814-454-1085 or
e-mail
us to discuss your options.
Q: Will my appointments and medical history be confidential?
A:
The law and the APA's (American Psychiatric Association) ethics guidelines strictly prescribe that the content of the doctor-patient relationship is confidential, with only several important exceptions. We strictly abide by these guidelines.
Q: How do I set up an appointment?
